Google Ads Offering Free Rides and Other Transportation Deals

Everyone knows that finding parking at their favorite bar or restaurant can be a nightmare, especially if that bar or restaurant is in a hot part of town. Circling the block, paying the meter, or resorting to valet is a pain. The cost of getting a taxi ride isn’t much better. In fact, the hassle of finding parking might dissuade customers from visiting your bar or restaurant altogether. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could give your customers a coupon for a free or discounted ride to your restaurant and totally alleviate their parking woes? Well, with some help from Google, you might be able to do that soon!

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently granted Google a patent that will allow it to advertise in a whole new way—by offering free or discounted rides to the advertiser’s location.

How does it work? Well, imagine you want to get more customers to come into your restaurant on weekdays. You can offer a great discount on entrees during the week…and you can also offer the customer a free taxi ride to your restaurant! Google would be able to analyze the customer’s location, the route to your restaurant, the available transportation, and even the cost competing restaurants are charging for the same service. The result? It’s way easier for customers to get to your business, and you don’t have to handle the hassle. And, using Google’s knowledge of advertising, you’ll be able to target your advertisements towards the people you really want to attract.

Google envisions eventually using autonomous cars with this service. It may seem way too futuristic to imagine driverless cars dropping customers off at your business, but Google is working on making it a reality. Until then, coupons for various forms of public transportation can be used.

It will also be possible to arrange for transportation to take customers back to their homes. This, of course, is one great way to avoid the problem of drunk driving or assigning a designated driver.
