Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Sandy, UT-based RUMBI ISLAND GRILL (founded 2000) has increased by 1 unit, from 21 to 22 (5% growth) and entered into NV.  The restaurants are fast casual, open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person check average.  Cuisine is American.  Locations seat about 90 and offer catering and online ordering services.  Trading areas are AZ, CO, ID, NV, and UT.  Franchise opportunities are available.

Savannah, GA-based SEASONS OF JAPAN (founded 1999) has increased by 1 unit, from 8 to 9 (13% growth).  This fast casual Japanese concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Unit seat about 50 and offer catering and online services.  The restaurants are located in GA and SC.

Maryland-based THREE BROTHERS ITALIAN RESTAURANTS (founded 1976) has increased by 1 unit, from 15 to 16 (7% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, serving Italian cuisine and pizza.  Per person check average is $6-$15+, open for lunch and dinner.  Select locations serve beer and wine and some full bar.  Others have no alcohol service and are quick serve.  Catering, delivery, online ordering, and private party services are all available.  Locations are franchised and trade in MD.

BUBBY’S PIE CO based in New York, NY (founded 1990) has increased by 1 unit, from 2 to 3 (50% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 150.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Catering, banquets, delivery and patio seating are available.  All locations are in NY.

GUTEN FOODS INC based in Portland, OR (founded 1963) has increased by 1 unit for Gustav’s Pub & Grill from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20+.  Catering and banquet services are available.  There is a second company concept called Rheinlander German Restaurant (1 unit).  Overall company growth is from 5 to 6 (20% company growth).  Locations are in OR and WA.

PAL’S SUDDEN SERVICE based in Kingsport, TN (founded 1956) has increased by 1 unit, from 23 to 24 (4% growth).  These are take-out burger restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Locations are in TN and VA

Norwalk, CT-based BARCELONA RESTAURANT & WINE BAR (founded 1995) has increased by 2 units for the Barcelona concept, from 7 to 9 (29% concept growth) and by 1 location for the Bartaco concept, from 3 to 4 (33% concept growth).  Overall company increase was from 10 to 13 (30% company growth).  The restaurants are upscale, with a $15-$50+ per person check average, serving Spanish and Mexican cuisines.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 150.  Catering and banquet facilities are available.  Trading areas are CT, GA, MA, and NY.

Washington, DC-based PASSION FOOD LLC (founded 1998) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth), with the addition of a new concept called Burger Tap & Shake.  Other concepts are Acadiana (1), Ceiba (1), DC Coast (1), District Commons (1), Fuego Cocina Y Tequileria (1), and Passion Fish (1).  The restaurants are upscale, serving various types of cuisines.  Per person check average is $15-$50+, with full bar service and seating for about 225.  The restaurants have banquet facilities.  Locations are in DC and VA.  We featured this company on 4/9/13 (50% growth).

Huntington Beach, CA-based BJ’S RESTAURANTS (NASDAQ:BJRI; founded 1978) has increased by 17 units, from 121 to 138 (14% growth) and entered into KS and NM.  The restaurants are family/casual, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30+ per person check average.  Locations have full bar and seating for about 300.  Private party and online ordering services are available.  Trading areas are AZ, CA, CO, FL, IN, KS, KY, LA, NM, NV, OH, OK, OR, TX, and WA.  We last featured this concept on 6/26/12 (6% growth).

Orlando, FL-based EARL OF SANDWICH (founded 2004) has increased by 5 units, from 21 to 26 (24% growth) and entered into MD.  This fast casual sandwich shop is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Units seat about 50 and offer catering and online ordering options.  Locations are franchised and trade in CA, FL, MA, MD, MI, NJ, NV, NY, PA, TX, London, and Paris.  We wrote about this concept on 7/10/12 (24% growth) and on 3/19/13 (5% growth).  Earl of Sandwich is a subsidiary of Planet Hollywood restaurants.

FATBURGER of Santa Monica, CA (founded 1952) has increased by 13 units, from 112 to 125 (12% growth).  These are fast casual restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Drive-thru, online ordering and patio seating are available.  Locations are more than 60% franchised and are in AB, AZ, BC, CA, FL, GA, MD, NE, NJ, NV, SK and WA.  We last wrote about this concept on 6/12/12 when they had 9% growth.

COSTA VIDA FRESH MEXICAN GRILL based in Lehi, UT (founded 2003) has increased by 9 units, from 50 to 59 (18% growth).  These are fast casual Mexican restaurants with seating for around 50.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$12+.  Catering is offered.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in AB, AZ, CA, CO, ID, MO, NM, OK, TX, UT and WA.  We reported on this concept on 3/19/16 (16% growth).
