Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Delaware-based LA TONALTECA (founded 1993) has increased by 1 unit for the La Tonalteca concept, from 8 to 9 (13% concept growth).  The company also operates La Tolteca (3).  Overall company increase was from 11 to 12 (9% company growth).  These are family/casual Mexican concepts, open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seat about 100.  Online ordering is available.  Units are located in DE, NY, and PA.

Denver, CO-based ANTHONY’S PIZZA & PASTA (founded 1984) has increased by 1 unit, from 26 to 27 (4% growth).  This family/casual Italian and pizza concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  Some of the locations have full bar, others are beer and wine only.  Average seating is for about 90.  Delivery is available.  Locations are franchised and are all located in CO.

PIG N PANCAKE of Seaside, OR (founded 1961) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with seating for around 100.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Catering and banquet services are available.  All locations are in OR.

BLACK WALNUT CAFÉ of The Woodlands, TX has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% concept growth).  There is a second company concept called Hubbell and Hudson (1 unit).  Overall company increase is from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 100.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Banquet service and patio seating are available.  All locations are in TX.

BREAD WINNERS CAFE AND BAKERY based in Dallas, TX has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  These are upscale restaurants with full bar and seating for around 125.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$50+.  Catering and banquet services are offered.  All locations are in TX

CASA GRANDE of Glen Allen, VA has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  These are family/casual Mexican restaurants with full bar and seating for around 175.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Catering and patio seating are available.  All locations are in VA.

Provo, UT-based SPOON ME (founded 2007) has increased by 5 units, from 13 to 18 (38% growth) and entered into MB, MO, and NV.  This quick serve frozen yogurt concept is open for lunch and dinner hours, with a $2-$6 price range.  Seating is for about 20.  All locations are franchised and trade in CA, MB, MO, NJ, NV, OH, UT, and VA.

BROTHER JIMMY’S BBQ based in New York, NY (founded 1988) has increased by 2 units for Brother Jimmy’s BBQ, from 7 to 9 (29% growth), expanding into FL and NJ.  These are family/casual BBQ restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$12.  Catering and delivery services are offered.   There is a second company concept called Brother Jimmy’s Burger Shack (1 unit).  Overall company increase is from 8 to 10 (25% company growth).  Trading areas are FL, NJ and NY.

Palm Beach Gardens, FL-based CG BURGER (founded 1988) has increased by 1 unit for the CG Burgers concept, from 2 to 3 (50% concept growth), 1 unit for CG Burgers & Coal Fired Pizza, from 1 to 2 (100% concept growth), and by 1 unit for La Trattoria Restaurant, from 1 to 2 (100% concept growth).  The company also added a new concept called Carmen’s La Trattoria (2 units).  Other concepts are Carmine’s Coal Fired Pizza (1) and Carmine’s Original Ocean Grill & Sushi Bar (1).  Overall company increase was from 6 to 11 (83% company growth).  The restaurants are mostly family/casual, serving burgers and Italian cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  Locations serve beer and wine and the average seating is for 100.  All the restaurants are in FL.

Jackson, MS-based NEWK’S EATERY (founded 2004) has increased by 3 units, from 50 to 53 (6% growth).  This fast casual concept is open for lunch and dinner, serving American cuisine.  Per person check average is $10-$30, serving beer and wine.  Average seating is for about 150.  Catering is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MI, MO, MS, NC, TN, and TX.  We last featured this company on 11/1/11 (26% growth).

Lake Forest, CA-based DEL TACO (founded 1964) has increased by 8 units, from 542 to 550 (1% growth).  The restaurants are quick serve, open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Units seat about 80 and also offer drive-thru service.  Locations are franchised and trade in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, MI, MT, NM, NV, OH, OR, SC, TX, UT, and WA.  We last wrote about this concept on 5/29/12 (3% growth).
