Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Newton, MA-based UFOOD GRILL (OTCBB:UFFC; founded 1999) has increased by 1 unit, from 8 to 9 (13% growth) and entered into UT.  This is a fast casual concept, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person price range.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 80.  Catering and online ordering services are available.  Locations are franchised and trade in MA, OH, TX, and UT.

Milford, OH-based PENN STATION EAST COAST SUBS (founded 1985) has increased by 11 units, from 232 to 243 (5% growth) and entered into KS.  These fast casual sandwich shops are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Seating is for around 50.  Stores are franchised and trade in IL, IN, KY, KY, MI, MO, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WV.

Atlanta, GA-based SHANE’S RIB SHACK (founded 2002) has increased by 5 units, from 67 to 72 (7% growth).  This fast casual BBQ concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Beer is sold.  Seating is for about 70 and catering service is available.  All locations are franchised and trade in AL, AZ, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, NC, NY, SC, TN, and VA.

THE DERBY SPORTS GRILLE of Sugar Hill, GA has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around $6-$12.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Catering is offered.  All locations are in GA.

BAJA BEAN CO based in Richmond, VA (founded 1989) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth) adding a new concept called Station 12.  The Baja Bean concept has 4 units. Locations tend to be family/casual with full bar and seating for around 250.  All locations are in VA.

NORM’S RESTAURANT of Bellflower, CA (founded 1949) has increased by 1 unit, from 17 to 18 (6% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 150.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $2-$15+.  All locations are in CA.

SCARFONE’S COAL FIRED PIZZA of Coral Springs, FL (founded 2007) has increased by 1 unit, from 2 to 3 (50% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with seating for around 50.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Banquets are offered.  All locations are in FL.

SAN ANTONIO BAR & GRILL of Alexandria, VA has increased by 1 unit, from 2 to 3 (50% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Locations are in DC and VA.

Portland, OR-based LAUGHING PLANET CAFÉ (founded 1995) has increased by 1 unit for the Laughing Planet Café concept, from 9 to 10 (11% concept growth) and added a new concept called Dick’s Kitchen (2 units).  Overall company increase was from 9 to 12 (33% growth).  Laughing Planet is a quick serve Mexican concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Beer is served.  Dick’s Kitchen is a family/casual diner concept, open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$12 per person price range.  Full bar is served.  Seating at both concepts is for about 90.  All locations are in OR.

New Orleans, LA-based NAKED PIZZA (founded 2006) has increased by 6 units, from 17 to 23 (35% growth) and entered into MD, NJ, NY, and VA.  These quick serve pizza shops are open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Units have limited seating.  Online ordering and delivery options are available.  Locations are franchised and trade in AZ, CA, CO, FL, LA, MA, MD, NJ, NY, OH, VA, and the Middle East.

Irvine, CA-based HABIT BURGER GRILL (founded 1969) has increased by 8 units, from 46 to 54 (17% growth).  These are quick serve burger shops, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $3-$8 and seating is for around 40.  Locations are in AZ and CA.  We last featured this concept on 4/12/11 (27% growth) and on 10/18/11 (21% growth).

Minnetonka, MN-based FAMOUS DAVE’S (NASDAQ: DAVE; founded 1995) has increased by 2 units, from 184 to 186 (1% growth).  These restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average.  Locations have full bar and seating for about 250.  Catering is available.  Between 70% and 80% of the units are franchised.  Trading areas are AR, AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, and WI.  We last wrote about this company on 1/18/11 (2% growth) and on 9/20/11 (1% growth).

Edgewater, MD-based THE GREENE TURTLE (founded 1976) has increased by 4 units, from 29 to 33 (14% growth).  This is a family/casual sports bar and grill concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $8-$20, offering catering and private party facilities.  Units seat about 150.  Locations are franchised and trade in DC, DE, MD, and VA.  We last featured this concept on 7/12/11 (16% growth).

HURRICANE GRILL & WINGS of West Palm Beach, FL (founded 1995) has increased by 2 units, from 43 to 45 (5% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 100.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $6-$15+.  Catering and patio seating are offered.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in AZ, FL, IN, MI, NC, NY, PA and TX.  We last reported on this concept on 5/24/11 (24% growth).
