Richardson, TX-based GOLDEN CHICK (founded 1978) has increased by 6 units for the Golden Chick concept, from 91 to 97 (7% concept growth).  The company also operates Jalapeno Tree (15 units).  Overall company increase was from 107 to 112 (5% company growth), due to a 1-unit closure for Jalapeno Tree.  Golden Chick is a quick serve chicken restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Units seat about 60.  Jalapeno tree is family/casual Mexican, with a full bar.  Catering and delivery options are available.  The restaurants are franchised and trade in OK and TX.

Scottsdale, AZ-based Z-TEJAS SOUTHWESTERN GRILL (founded 1989) has increased by 1 unit, from 11 to 12 (9% growth).  This is a family/casual Mexican restaurant concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $8-$20, serving full bar.  Seating is for about 200, with private party and catering services available.  Trading areas are AZ, CA, TX, UT, and WA.

Arizona-based DONOVAN’S STEAK & CHOP HOUSE has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth), with the addition of a new concept called Donovan’s Prime Seafood.  These are upscale steak and seafood concepts, with a $15-$50+ per person check average.  Locations are open for dinner only and have full bar service.  Seating is for about 200, with banquet facilities.  Locations are in AZ and CA.

BUBBA GUMP SHRIMP CO, a subsidiary of Houston, TX based Landry’s restaurants (founded 1996) has increased by 3 units, from 33 to 36 (9% growth).  These are family/casual seafood restaurants with full bar and seating for around 200.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Locations are in CA, CO, FL, HI, IL, LA, MN, NY, SC and TN.

Jacksonville, FL-based DICK’S WINGS has increased by 3 units, from 17 to 20 (18% growth) and entered into ON.  This is a family/casual concept, specializing in chicken wings.  Per person check average is $6-$12, open for lunch and dinner.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 125.  Catering is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in FL, GA, and ON.

Huntington Beach, CA-based BJ’S RESTAURANTS (NASDAQ: BJRI; founded 1978) has increased by 7 units, from 114 to 121 (6% growth).  This is a family/casual concept, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for about 300.  Private party and online ordering services are available.  Trading areas are AZ, CA, CO, FL, IN, KY, LA, NV, OH, OK, OR, TX, and WA.  We last featured this company on 12/21/10 (6% growth) and on 5/3/11 (2% growth).

Scottsdale, AZ-based GRIMALDI’S COAL BRICK-OVEN PIZZERIA (founded 1931) has increased by 2 units, from 33 to 35 (6% growth) and entered into SC.  This is a family/casual concept, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $6-$12.  Most locations have full bar and seating for about 125.  Catering, delivery, and private party services are available.  Trading areas are AZ, FL, NJ, NV, NY, SC, and TX.  We last featured this concept on 2/22/11 (11% growth) and on 1/3/12 (57% growth).

La Jolla, CA-based LADEKI RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 1989) has increased by 1 unit for the Sammy’s Woodfire Pizza concept, from 17 to 18 (6% concept growth).  The company also operates a 1-unit Japanese concept called Roppongi.  Overall company increase was from 18 to 19 (6% growth).  Sammy’s is a family/casual pizza concept, open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person price range.  Full bar is served and seating is for about 150.  Roppongi is a more upscale Japanese concept, open for lunch and dinner, with private party facilities.  Company trading areas are CA and NV.  We last wrote about this company on 10/11/11 (6% growth).

ZPIZZA of Irvine, CA (founded 1986) has increased by 1 unit, from 103 to 104 (1% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 30.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Catering is offered.  Locations are more than 70% franchised and are in AZ, CA, CO, DC, GA, HI, MD, MN, MT, NC, NV, NY, OH, SC, TX, VA and WA.  We last reported on this concept in our newsletter on 5/3/11 when they had (9% growth).

WOW CAFE & WINGERY based in Covington, LA (founded 2001) has increased by 11 units for Wow Café, from 49 to 60 (22% concept growth) and by 3 units for PJ’s Coffee & Tea, from 48 to 51 (6% concept growth).  Overall company growth is from 97 to 111 (14% company growth).  Wow Café tends to be fast casual with seating for around 90.  Beer is served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Catering is offered.  PJ’s is a quick serve coffee shop, with seating for around 30. Meal periods are breakfast and lunch, with a $2-$6 per person check average.  Trading areas are AL, CA, DC, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, MN, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NM, OK, PA, TN, TX, VA, VT and WI.  We reported on this company on 10/11/11 (7% growth).

MOOYAH BURGERS & FRIES of Plano, TX (founded 2005) has increased by 10 units, from 26 to 36 (38% growth) and expanded into AR, KS and VA.  These are fast casual restaurants with seating for around 60.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Locations are more than 40% franchised and are in AR, KS, CA, CT, TX, TN and VA.  We wrote about this concept on 5/24/11 (20% growth) and on 2/28/12 (44% growth).
