Houston, TX-based SICILY PIZZA & PASTA has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  This quick serve Italian and pizza concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person check average.  Locations seat about 30 and offer catering, delivery and online ordering services.  All units are in TX.

Wyckoff, NJ-based BLUE MOON MEXICAN CAFE (founded 1987) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $10-$30, with full bar and seating for about 100.  Catering, delivery, online ordering, and banquet services are available.  Locations are in NJ and NY.

Michigan-based TOKYO SUSHI & GRILLE has increased by 1 unit, from 5 to 6 (20% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $10-$30 and seating is for about 60.  Catering is available.  All locations are in MI.

Columbus, OH-based STEAK ESCAPE (founded 1982) has increased 6 units, from 65 to 71 (9% growth).  This fast casual concept specializes in cheesesteaks and sandwiches and is open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $4-$12+.  Units seat about 30 and offer catering and drive-thru service.  Stores are franchised and trade in AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, IL, LA, MD, MN, MS, NC, OH, SD, TN, TX, WI, WV, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Scottsdale, AZ-based MALONEY’S TAVERN (founded 1991) has increased by 1 unit, from 4 to 5 (25% growth).  The restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30 per person check average.  Locations have full bar service and have seating for 300.  Catering and banquet rooms are available.  Trading areas are AZ, CA, CO, and NM.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Boston, MA-based THE AQUITAINE GROUP (founded 1995) has increased by 2 units, from 6 to 8 (33% growth) with the addition of 2 new concepts called Cinquecento Trattoria and Greenlight Cafe.  Other company concepts are Aquitaine (3), Gaslight Brasserie (1), Metropolis Cafe (1), and Union Bar And Grill (1).  The restaurants are upscale, serving mostly French cuisine.  Per person check average is $15-$50+, open for lunch and dinner.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for around 300.  Private party services are available.  All the restaurants are in MA.

Los Angeles, CA-based UMAMI RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 2009) has increased by 6 units for the Umami Burger concept, from 10 to 16 (60% concept growth) and entered into FL.  The company also operates 800 Degrees (1), Red Medicine (1), and Umamicatessen (1).  Overall company increase was from 13 to 19 (46% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, serving burgers and sandwiches.  Per person check average is $10-$30, with beer and wine service.  One Umami Burger location has full bar.  Average seating is for about 50.  Trading areas are CA and FL.

Carol Stream, IL-based CONNIE’S PIZZA (founded 1963) has increased by 2 units, from 5 to 7 (40% growth).  This family/casual pizzeria is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person check average.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for around 100.  Catering, delivery, online ordering, and private party options are available.  All locations are in IL.

Grapevine, TX-based COTTON PATCH CAFE (founded 1989) has increased by 2 units, from 39 to 41 (5% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 100.  Catering is available.  Trading areas are NM and TX.  We wrote about this concept on 8/28/12 (3% growth).

Stamford, CT-based PLANET PIZZA (founded 1991) has increased by 1 unit, from 10 to 11 (10% growth).  The restaurants are fast casual, open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range.  Locations serve beer and wine and seat about 40.  Catering, delivery and online ordering services are available.  Stores are located in CT and NY.  We last featured this concept on 7/10/12 (11% growth).
