Birmingham, AL – Babalu Tacos & Tapas
Babalu Tacos & Tapas, a Jackson, Miss.-based restaurant concept that features small-plate servings of Latin–influenced dishes, opened a location in Memphis, Tennessee in May of 2014 and a location in Birmingham, Alabama in October 2014. In 2015 they are expected to open locations in Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee as well as Charlotte, North Carolina.

Chicago, IL – Baocos
This restaurant, a concept mixing Mexican and Southeast Asian tastes, could open in late April at 1904 N. Western Ave. It’s from the owner of the Melting Pot fondue restaurants.

Manhattan, NY – Cabalito
Cabalito, is on its way to the block, an eatery that specializes in “authentic Salvadoran” cuisine. Main menu item will be handmade “Pupusas,” stuffed corn tortillas that are the traditional food of El Salvador. The store itself is already dressed for its makeover with requisite logo and window leafing. Expect an opening by April 1

San Francisco, CA – Cadence  
Jay Bordeleau and Kate Bolton will be opening this restaurant right next to their new bar, Mr Tipple’s Recording Studio. Both of these new restaurants are expected to open summer 2025.

Lakeland, FL – Square 1 Burgers and Bar
Claussen’s Fine Furniture in South Lakeland is in the midst of a remodel that will result in a retail center with perhaps two restaurants. General Manager Jim Claussen said the store is renovating the exterior of a space on the south side of the building that will be occupied by Square 1 Burgers and Bar.

Houston, TX – Sud Italia Ristorante
Sud Italia will be taking over at the Bistro des Amis once it closes at the end of this month. With 25 years of restaurant experience, owner Shanon Scott, former general manager at Arturo Italiano Uptown, is ready to step out on his own. Scott will offer Southern Italian cuisine, with a menu that will focus less on heavier dishes usually associated with Italian food and include seafood. Sud Italia Ristorante is expected to open in Mid-April.
