UFood Restaurant Group Inc. has opened the first of three units at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Located at the APG Post Exchange, the unit seats 80 and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week (Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
The place where “delicious meets nutritious,” UFood Grill is committed to offering consumers food that tastes great, is lower in calories and fat and, wherever possible, serves meals that are antibiotic and hormone-free, gluten-free as well as natural, grass-fed beef and cage-free eggs. UFood boasts a wide-ranging menu that includes lean burgers, rice bowls, salads, wraps, paninis and smoothies.
“This is an exciting moment for our company as we enter the military channel,” said UFood CEO George Naddaff. “We believe that our better-for-you quick-service concept will provide an excellent foodservice solution to the busy, health-conscious civilian and military men and women who work and serve at Aberdeen Proving Ground.”
The Aberdeen locations are a joint venture of UFood Restaurant Group Inc. and MBUF, LLC, a private investment group of military veterans. Its affiliate, MBUF Management LLC, is under agreement for military base development of 26 UFood Grill units. MBUF Management LLC has also been approved by AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) to open a UFood Grill at Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas in November 2012.
“The opening of our first unit at Aberdeen is an important milestone in our relationship with UFood and our advancement into the military channel,” said Francis L. Shea, partner, MBUF, LLC. “With its focus on healthier eating and fitness for our troops, the military is a natural fit for the UFood concept. We look forward to expanding the UFood concept here in Aberdeen and on other military bases.”
UFood Restaurant Group was awarded a contract by AAFES to build and operate three UFood Grill units at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The other two units are under construction and are expected to open this fall.
APG Garrison Commander Col. Gregory McClinton noted, “Aberdeen Proving Ground is proud to offer our community healthier food choices by opening the first UFood Grill on a U.S. military installation. This is a step in the right direction as the Department of Defense focuses its efforts on improving the health and well being of our personnel and family members. We appreciate the long-term commitment that UFood Grill has made with AAFES for their operations at Aberdeen Proving Ground. It will ensure that we are able to provide more nutritious offerings for the long term.”
