With its smoky, dry rubbed meats, spicy sauces and Southern homemade side items, VooDoo BBQ & Grill isn’t your typical chain barbecue place. The founders of VooDoo BBQ & Grill, longtime college friends, set out to make the eatery something different for patrons. The idea was to give customers a 45-minute mini-vacation to the Big Easy.
“I have been to a lot of other great barbecue places around, but a common theme in a lot of those restaurants is a Southwest/Texas-style look with cattle, and then the others are the pig-themed restaurants, the pigs with the wings,” said Tony Avila, CEO of VooDoo BBQ & Grill.
“More and more you see that, and it seems like barbecue places tend to fall in those themes, and we wanted to make sure when you walk into our restaurant, you know that this is a New Orleans style concept. There is a lot of wrought iron, that dark old wood, stained concrete floors, light fixtures that look like lampposts—a lot of that imagery that is from our part of the country, and that is something our guests and the people interested in franchising like.”
