Waffle House Museum Celebrates 5th Anniversary During National Waffle Week

The Waffle House Museum, site of the first Waffle House restaurant, will celebrate its fifth anniversary with an open house on September 7th to wrap up the events of National Waffle Week.

Waffle House restaurants opened this first location on Labor Day, 1955 in Avondale Estates, Ga. when two neighbors, Joe Rogers, Sr. and Tom Forkner envisioned a restaurant focused on people serving quality food at a great value.

“We never dreamed that Waffle House would be as big as it is today when we opened our doors in 1955. In the beginning, we thought we would open about ten locations and then go fishing,” tells Waffle House Co-Founder Joe Rogers, Sr.

The Waffle House Museum will be open on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from noon to 3pm to celebrate the anniversary along with the 58-year heritage of this Southern icon. Along with tours of the 1955 diner replica, the first 200 visitors will receive a Waffle House gift bag.  Guests can also make their own waffles and compete in games to win prizes. This event is free to the public.

“The museum is a tribute to what Joe and Tom started, and a tribute to the tradition that all of our thousands of Associates have continued since 1955,” said Pat Warner, Waffle House VP of Culture. “From that one location a very successful chain was born.”

Today, there are more than 1,690 Waffle House locations in 25 states. Since day one, the goal was to provide guests with a unique and comfortable dining experience. At every restaurant, the bright “yellow sign” welcomes customers like an old friend, the jukebox plays a variety of now famous Waffle House songs and associates give customers a heartfelt greeting as they walk through the door.
