Over Sixty Years of Coffee Heritage and Tradition Arrives in South Florida
A beloved family tradition is stepping off the grocery store shelves and into a vibrant new retail setting. Café Aroma, the Cuban immigrant-founded, family-owned premium espresso brand, has opened its very first brick-and-mortar location in Boca Raton, Florida, at Two Town Center Suite 100. Known nationwide for its bold, packaged Cuban-style espresso, the New Jersey-based brand is starting an exciting new chapter by bringing its dedication to authentic coffee culture into a hospitality-driven retail environment for the first time.
The history behind the concept dates back more than six decades to a humble, grassroots operation. Founder Rogelio “Roy” Montes De Oca originally established the brand by selling his hand-roasted espresso door to door in New York City. Opening a dedicated storefront represents a meaningful full-circle moment for the family as they scale up their operations.
“Over 60 years after my grandfather started Café Aroma by selling his then hand-roasted espresso door to door in New York City, we couldn’t be more proud to follow in his footsteps with the opening of our first café,” said Bernadette Gerrity, Vice President of Café Aroma and granddaughter of the founder. “Our Boca Raton café is built around the same values that have shaped us from the beginning: quality, culture, and connection. It’s an incredible milestone for our family, and we’re so proud and grateful to carry Roy’s legacy forward.”
Traditional Espresso Beverages and Pastries at Café Aroma
Operating daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the intimate 440-square-foot shop provides an elevated yet warm environment for locals to gather. The interior design balances functionality with nostalgic Old Havana influences, featuring eight seats, dark woods, marble finishes, refurbished 1950s red rattan stools, and vintage black-and-white photography of Cuba. A bold red Futurmat espresso machine from Spain anchors the counter, while a record player spinning Latin music and custom domino sets establish an inviting, relaxed atmosphere. The flexible venue is also available to book for private evening events.
The menu highlights authentic flavors crafted with the company’s signature Especial beans:
-
Classic & Specialty Drinks: Guests can order traditional cafe bon bon, cafecitos, and cappuccinos, alongside seasonal sips like a Banana Latte or a Dulce de Leche Latte, and curated teas from House of Waris.
-
Savory & Sweet Bites: The food lineup includes authentic pastelitos, croquetas, empanadas, and classic Cuban sandwiches sourced from local favorite Vicky Bakery for quick grab-and-go dining.
-
The Mercadito Counter: A curated retail marketplace stocks packaged goods inspired by Cuba, Spain, and Latin America, including espresso bricks, bomba rice, Bonilla potato chips, Materva, and unique gifts like repurposed coffee bean burlap totes.
Extending Cuban Coffee Traditions Beyond Miami
The company deliberately selected Boca Raton for its physical debut to extend rich culinary traditions to a growing, curious audience outside of Miami. Because Florida has long felt like a second home to the Northeast-based business, setting up a permanent storefront in the community felt like a natural choice.
