Gloucester Quays Formally Opens Its New Leisure Quarter as More Retailers Join the Line-up

Peel Outlets has formally opened its new £60 million (UK sterling) leisure quarter as the outlet centre continues to attract both leisure and new retailer occupiers on the back of steadily increasing customer footfall.

Members of the Peel Group’s main board led by Chairman John Whittaker were on hand for the opening attended by some 100 VIP guests.  The new extension includes a 1,600-seat, 10-screen Cineworld and a 1,486 sq m (16,000 sq ft) health & fitness centre operated by The Gym along with Ed’s Easy Diner, Zizzi Ristorante, Chimichanga, The Real China and Loungers who have all opened restaurant units along with Nandos and Pizza Express.

The new leisure quarter takes Gloucester Quays Outlet Centre to 33,630 sq m (362,600 sq ft).  The 110-unit centre is expected to attract a footfall of 4 million per annum by the end of 2014. Gloucester, located around 110 miles to the west of London, is a cathedral city.

Meanwhile All Saints, The North Face and Crew Clothing have just become the latest leading brand fashion retailers to take units at Gloucester Quays.  The trio of fashion-oriented signings complements the existing offer as brand retailer recognition grows as a result of the centre’s increasing regional customer appeal.  The centre comprises a complementary mix of fashion brands, top sportswear, footwear and homewear all offering up to 70% off recommended retail prices including: Calvin Klein, Ghost, L.K. Bennett, Musto, Paul Costelloe, The White Company, Osprey London, M&S Outlet, Next, GAP and Austin Reed, among others. The centre also incorporates a 96-room national chain hotel. There is parking for up to 1,500 cars.

Comments Jason Pullen, MD of Peel Outlets:

“The formal opening of Gloucester Quays’ leisure quarter marks a key milestone for the centre as it evolves into a recognized regional outlet destination.  We have introduced 20 new fashion and leisure brands to the centre over this past year. Retailers and restaurant/leisure occupiers have recognized that we have created a critical brand mass and we expect other brands to join the line-up in 2014.  The journey continues.”

Gloucester Quays joint letting agents in the UK are Chameleon Retail (0207 629 2200) and Cushman & Wakefield (020 7152 5000).
