Seasoned Executive Steps Up to Drive Growth and Operational Excellence
Changes are underway at the highest level of America’s iconic fast-food brand. McDonald’s Corporation announced today that 26-year company veteran Skye Anderson takes over as President of McDonald’s USA. In her new role, she’ll guide nearly 14,000 restaurants nationwide as the brand focuses on enhancing the customer experience, elevating value options, and pushing long-term growth across its largest market.
Her promotion supports the rollout of the McDonald’s > NEXT strategy, an initiative aimed at keeping the brand as the top dining choice while boosting productivity across the board. Anderson steps into the position following Joe Erlinger, who decided to depart the business after spending over two decades with the company, including nearly seven years leading domestic operations.
This move follows a planned transition process that began earlier this year when Anderson rejoined the domestic team as Chief Operating Officer.
“Skye combines deep operational discipline with strong financial judgment and has earned the trust of Owner/Operators, suppliers and employees,” said Chris Kempczinski, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, McDonald’s Corporation. “I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Skye throughout much of her career, and I’ve repeatedly turned to her to lead some of our most important businesses and transformation efforts because she’s a proven change agent who can act with urgency to mobilize our System.”
Kempczinski added that execution in restaurants is key: “As we bring McDonald’s > NEXT to life, the U.S. business has a critical role to play in translating our ambition into action for customers, crew and Owner/Operators. Having led the U.S. business myself, I understand the opportunities and challenges ahead. Skye knows that great strategies only matter if they create better outcomes in restaurants. I look forward to working closely with her and the U.S. leadership team to help accelerate performance and unlock the significant opportunity in front of us, and I have tremendous confidence that she is the ideal leader for this next phase of our U.S. business.”
Decades of Broad Industry Experience
Anderson brings a rich background spanning multiple key areas of the organization:
-
Financial & Global Leadership: Managed finance operations in Australia and established the company’s Global Business Services division.
-
Regional & Operational Management: Held field and zone leadership roles throughout the U.S. before serving as domestic Chief Operating Officer.
-
Proven Performance: Led the West Zone for four years, modernizing over 5,700 locations, driving comparable sales up by more than 30 percent, and boosting average unit cash flow by $100,000 per restaurant.
“McDonald’s has always been at its best when we harness the strength of our unique System to serve customers and communities,” said Anderson. “I am honored to lead the U.S. business and build on the strong foundation already in place. Together with our Owner/Operators, suppliers and employees, we’ll remain focused on serving great food, delivering exceptional experiences, earning the right to be our customers’ first choice and bringing McDonald’s > NEXT to life across our restaurants every day.”
Honoring Outgoing Leadership
Kempczinski expressed appreciation for Erlinger’s two decades of dedicated service and steady guidance.
“Joe has made a tremendous impact on McDonald’s throughout his more than 20-year career,” said Kempczinski. “As President of McDonald’s USA, he helped guide the business through a period of significant change while strengthening our digital capabilities, franchise system and operational foundation. Joe leaves an indelible mark on our culture and business, and we are grateful for his leadership and contributions.”
Erlinger will assist Anderson to guarantee a smooth transition, staying on as an advisor until early 2027.
