Soulman’s Bar-B-Que Celebrates Family Legacy with Annual Pie Giveaway
On May 20, 2026, Soulman’s Bar-B-Que will honor the culinary contributions of family matriarch Mary Alice “Memer” Hallett. To celebrate what would have been her 105th birthday, the North Texas favorite is hosting a special pie giveaway across all its locations. Many of the brand’s original family recipes trace back to Memer, whose influence remains a cornerstone of the company’s identity.
Honoring a Culinary Legend at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que
In keeping with an annual tradition, the first 101 guests at each location who purchase a dine-in meal will receive a complimentary slice of Memer’s signature buttermilk pie, available while supplies last. For over 50 years, the brand has focused on comfort and tradition, qualities that Memer embodied throughout her life.
“Memer represented everything Soulman’s Bar-B-Que stands for – family, comfort, tradition, and bringing people together around great food,” said Brett Randle, CEO of Soulman’s Bar-B-Que. “Her buttermilk pie has become more than a menu item over the years. For many guests, it’s part of their own family memories and traditions.”
Five Decades of Tradition at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que
Since opening its first location in Pleasant Grove in 1974, the company has grown into a regional staple while remaining family-owned and operated. The menu is built on passed-down recipes, featuring eight types of meat smoked “low & slow” over hickory wood alongside homemade sides like Texas-style cream corn and Ranch house beans.
“Food has a unique way of connecting generations,” added Randle. “This celebration gives us the opportunity to honor someone who helped shape our company while also thanking the loyal guests who have supported Soulman’s Bar-B-Que through the years.”
Today, the chain operates 21 locations across North and East Texas. Throughout the day on May 20, the company will share vintage photos and tribute content on social media, inviting guests to participate by sharing their own memories using the hashtag #SliceOfMemer.
