STACKED: Food Well Built Plans Fourth Location; New Restaurant To Open in Thousand Oaks, California

STACKED: Food Well Built, the award-winning restaurant concept that allows guests to fully customize their meals, will opening soon at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Now foodies throughout Northern LA and Ventura Counties will be able to experience why STACKED recently won one of the restaurant industry’s most coveted awards, Nation’s Restaurants News’2012 Hot Concepts award, given to innovative growing chains.

Created around the vision of industry veterans, Paul Motenko and Jerry Hennessy, STACKED begins with a high-quality menu featuring America’s favorite foods, utilizing proprietary tabletop technology to let diners custom design their meals, while also giving them total control over when they order and pay.  At STACKED, guests design their orders in a create-your-own menu format choosing among dozens of ingredients with a swipe of a finger on iPads located at each table, or select from creative signature items built around flavors from across the world. The menu features burgers, pizzas, salads, and mac ‘n’ cheese, plus appetizers, shakes, and desserts, and a full bar featuring a wide selection of quality wines, craft beers and specialty cocktails.

The restaurant will seat around 200 guests in its 4,500 square feet of interior space and two patio areas. It will be located at the entrance to The Oaks Mall across from Cheesecake Factory. The Oaks is located at 350 West Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, Calif., 91360.

“The Oaks is always looking to bring fresh and unique concepts to the center and STACKED is just that. We are proud to partner and build a relationship with STACKED and are pleased they have chosen our center to further grow their business. The Oaks will provide the perfect setting for this new concept and we know STACKED will complement our existing retailer and restaurant offerings,” said Jennifer Ciccone, senior property manager at The Oaks.

STACKED, which opened its first location in Torrance in May 2011, also has restaurants in Cerritos and San Diego. According to co-founder Paul Motenko, “We are thrilled that so many of our guests have embraced the innovative nature of STACKED as they appreciate the ability to get exactly what they want using all their favorite ingredients.”

“We started with a noble objective – to offer fully-customizable, high-quality and flavorful food at reasonable prices,” said Motenko. “The challenge was how to do that in a way that would be most efficient and comfortable for our guests. The arrival of the iPad was our ‘a-ha’ moment. That technology enabled us to give our guests the luxury of designing their meals exactly how they want them. The STACKED ordering system was designed to enhance our guests’ ability to customize their meals and control their experience. It was not intended to reduce the personal touch. Our hospitality team members are committed to providing an attentive and caring, full-service experience for our guests. We are looking forward to serving the Thousand Oaks community.”

At STACKED, guests are encouraged to be creative. For example, to build a burger, guests choose from certified Angus beef, chicken, turkey, salmon or a vegetarian patty, and then “stack” it by selecting from four different buns, and dozens of cheeses, toppings and sauces that range from garlic aioli and Wasabi mayo to caramelized onions and roasted peppers. For those who prefer, STACKED also offers a variety of “Signature” burgers, including “The Wake Up Call,” which features a fried egg, Swiss cheese, bacon and sundried tomato aioli topped with freshly made potato chips on a pretzel bun. The same create-your-own format is utilized for pizzas, salads, mac ‘n’ cheese, shakes and desserts.

Based in Newport Beach, Calif., STACKED: Food Well Built is owned by Stacked Restaurants, LLC and has three locations at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego and the Los Cerritos Center in Cerritos, Calif. A fourth location is scheduled to open at The Oaks in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The STACKED menu features America’s favorite foods including burgers, pizzas, salads, and mac ‘n’ cheese. Guests can choose from signature dishes or build their own meals selecting from dozens of proteins, toppings, dips and sauces, using proprietary tableside iPad technology or they can order from attentive servers. Also on the menu are appetizers, shakes and desserts. In its first year of operation, STACKED has been recognized by the National Restaurant Association with its inaugural Technology Innovation Award, and as a Hot Concept by Nation’s Restaurant News.
