A Major Multi-Country Expansion Plan for The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill

The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill Expands into Guyana and the CaribbeanA popular fast casual concept is preparing to make its big debut across the Caribbean. The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill has signed a master franchise agreement with the Beharry Group to establish its brand presence in Guyana and seven additional countries throughout the region, including Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Beharry Group is a distinguished international conglomerate headquartered in Guyana with more than 80 years of history and over 4,000 employees. Led by chairman Suresh Beharry, the company manages a massive portfolio spanning commercial and merchant banking, manufacturing, insurance, stock brokerage, automotive distributorship, and quick service restaurants. Notably, the group is a successful Yum! Brands multi-unit franchisee operating 12 KFC and 10 Pizza Hut locations, with six more currently in active development. This new partnership marks their very first venture into the fast casual space.

“I had the pleasure of trying The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill while on a trip to South Florida and immediately fell in love with the brand,” said Suresh Beharry. “After years of operating quick service concepts, we saw an opportunity to diversify our portfolio with a fast casual brand that brings something different to the Caribbean market. Mediterranean cuisine is increasingly popular around the world, and we believe that same demand exists across Guyana and the wider Caribbean. The Great Greek allows us to tap into a clear gap in the market while introducing a dining experience that blends high-quality food with the speed and convenience today’s guests expect.”

Growth Plans for The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill

The development kickoff will begin later this year with a brand-new restaurant in Georgetown, the capital and largest city of Guyana. Looking ahead, the Beharry Group intends to open additional corporate units while bringing on sub-franchisees to expand the brand’s footprint into the other seven Caribbean nations.

“We are thrilled to welcome Suresh Beharry as our master franchise partner for the Caribbean,” said Bob Andersen, President of The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill. “Suresh brings a deep passion for The Great Greek brand and a strong commitment to building long-term success – not only for the concept itself, but for the future franchisees who will grow alongside it. As a life-long resident of Guyana with extensive business relationships across the region, he is uniquely positioned to introduce The Great Greek to the Caribbean and lead the brand’s expansion in this exciting new market.”

As an affiliated brand of United Franchise Group and part of its food division, Big Flavor Brands, the concept specializes in a better-for-you, premium dining experience. The business was originally co-founded by third-generation restaurateurs Nick A. Della Penna and Trent Jones, who utilized authentic recipes passed down through generations.

The menu delivers fresh, cooked-to-order Mediterranean cuisine backed by full-service hospitality. Guests can expect:

  • High-Quality Ingredients: Flavorful meals featuring freshly prepared proteins, house-made sauces, custom dips, and vibrant vegetables inspired by the Mediterranean diet.

  • Proven Support Systems: Franchisees benefit from the backing of Big Flavor Brands, which specializes in niche food concepts like this brand and the charcuterie caterer Graze Craze.
