Outback Steakhouse is inviting everyone to celebrate the Wisconsin Badgers 2015 Outback Bowl win with free* Coconut Shrimp appetizers nationwide. Fans can get in on the action by simply saying “Outback Bowl” to their server on January 2 to receive the offer, valid with any purchase.

“The Outback Bowl always brings out friendly competition between SEC and Big Ten fans, but at Outback, we like to give everyone a reason to cheer after the big game,” said Outback Steakhouse President, Jeff Smith. “So no matter which team you were rooting for, everyone wins with free Coconut Shrimp.”

One of the most anticipated bowl games of the season, this year’s 20th annual Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa sure did not disappoint. Fans around the nation tuned in to watch the Auburn Tigers, the 2013 SEC Champions, battle the Wisconsin Badgers, the Big Ten West Division leader. While both teams played a game to remember, in the end the Badgers went home with the 2015 Outback Bowl trophy, beating the Tigers 34-31 in an overtime victory. Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon led the Badgers with three touchdowns and the most rushing yards by one player in the history of the Outback Bowl. In overtime, Badger Rafael Gaglianone kicked a 25-yard field goal, then the Wisconsin defense officially sealed the win.

And fueling the Badgers big win, Outback Steakhouse kicked off this year’s bowl festivities by hosting both football teams for luncheons in their hometowns of Auburn and Madison, as well as a welcome dinner in Tampa. To beef up for the game, the Tigers and Badgers combined feasted on 5,000 pounds of food before the Outback Bowl, including 750 pounds of bold steak, 750 pounds of chicken, 900 pounds of ribs, 400 pounds of steakhouse potatoes and 1,200 pounds of cheese cake  – not to mention the 1,600 Coconut Shrimp and 160 Bloomin’ Onions served to the teams.

This year marks Outback’s third-annual nationwide appetizer giveaway based on the outcome of the Outback Bowl and the restaurant group is looking to top last year’s record giveaway. After the SEC’s LSU Tigers took home the trophy last year, Outback restaurants gave away more than 61,000 Bloomin’ Onions to guests around the country. To give an idea of how many Bloomin’ Onions that is, it’s the equivalent of 6,777 football fields! This is the first year that Outback will be giving away free Coconut Shrimp on January 2 nationwide to celebrate the Big Ten’s Wisconsin Badgers win.
