Charley’s Grilled Subs, the 450–unit franchise best known for its Philly Steak Sandwiches, is kicking off a new football-themed Facebook campaign just in time for the Super Bowl.
The Grill-Iron Classic campaign, which runs from January 16 to February 20, will pit the “champion” East coast Philly Cheese Steak sub against the “challenger” West Coast California chicken sub. In an effort to drive sales, grow the company’s Facebook fan base and reward participants, consumers are encouraged to “Like” the Charley’s Facebook page, vote for their favorite sub sandwich and earn free food.
Each participant will be rewarded with a voucher for free Charley’s Grilled Subs food and will also be entered into a sweepstakes for the chance to win one of nine $500 cash prizes. The cash prizes will be given away throughout the five-week campaign.
“Our Charley’s Philly Cheese Steak has had a legendary following for 25 years, but over the past few years the brash new California Chicken sandwich has built its own cult-like following,” said Mike Cassar, Charley’s Vice President of Marketing. “We know a good rivalry when we eat it, so we are playing the two coastal favorites against each other by plying our socially savvy fans with free food and prizes for their vote.”
The Grill Iron Classic puts a twist on the usual “please like me” campaigns by allowing current Charley Grilled Sub fanatics and a whole new flock of foodies from across the nation to discover something new on the menu. Added Cassar, “Everyone wins, but only one coast of sandwich lovers gets bragging rights!”
One of two food vouchers will be provided instantly to customers participating in the Facebook campaign: buy one get one sub free (of equal or lesser value) or a free combo upgrade to include gourmet fries and a beverage.
