These honorees assume various positions of prime responsibility — from PepsiCo’s Chairman & CEO, Indra K. Nooyi and KFC International’s (YUM! Brands) CEO Micky Pant — to several Director positions in most major foodservice and hospitality brands (see image). For these 22 executives, the proverbial “bamboo ceiling” does not exist. (The term “bamboo ceiling” was coined by Jane Hyun in her book “Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling: Career Strategies for Asians”. It is defined as a combination of individual, cultural, and organizational factors that impede Asian Americans’ career progress inside organizations.) Source: Wikipedia.com: Bamboo Ceiling.)

The Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance (MFHA) has long advocated for career opportunities in foodservice & hospitality. It is convinced that the industry has much to offer top multicultural talent in terms of long term and sustainable careers, based on the fact that its own members have always provided these in their own organizations.

The Asian-American & Pacific Islander Tribute ad is part of the annual Multicultural Leadership ad series initiated by MFHA over 7 years ago. The ads celebrate high achieving people of color, who have assumed senior management level positions in the industry. Starting with a Black/African-American tribute, the series has grown to include Asian-American & Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic and Multicultural Allies versions. By publishing a Tribute ad, MFHA aims to communicate how major industry brands are attracting, engaging, and continuously developing top multicultural talent.
