Freddy’s Breaks Ground for First Store in Houston

Freddy’s broke ground today in the Copperfield Crossing Center, near the northeast corner of the intersection at Spencer Road and State Highway 6, for construction on the first of over 30 stores in the area.

“Houston will love Freddy’s fresh, cooked-to-order food and the full-service feel of our restaurants. The premium steakburgers, specialty hot-dogs, and made-fresh throughout the day custard keep our guests satisfied and returning regularly for high-quality food that is hard to find these days,” remarked Operating Partner Padden Nelson. “Many people are familiar with the concept from San Antonio, Austin, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We are very excited to be in this new market area and we are going to deliver a very high level of hospitality to our guests in Houston.”

The 3500 square-foot, free-standing location at 15540 Highway 529 will build on a pad site in the shopping center that boasts high traffic volumes, a strong mix of family demographics in the area and quick access to various regions of the city. In the coming years, Freddy’s will build additional locations to total over 30 restaurants in the Houston metro area. Freddy’s veteran operator Padden Nelson leads the project with years of experience as a General and Regional Manager for the popular, quick-service concept.

“Padden is a go-to guy in our organization. He has opened many, many locations and he understands the process of building a solid team. He is somebody who really digs deep into the community and grasps the importance of being a part of the organizations that make it a great place to live,” commented Freddy’s COO Scott Redler. “We look forward to adding Houston to our Freddy’s family and being a part of the community for years to come.”

Co-founded by Scott Redler and Bill, Randy and Freddy Simon, Freddy’s opened its first location on west 21st Street in Wichita during 2002, offering a unique combination of cooked-to-order steakburgers, Chicago dogs, and other savory items along with its signature desserts prepared with premium frozen custard made fresh throughout the day in each store. Freddy’s founders operate six locations in the Wichita Metro area, two in the Kansas City market, and one in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fifty-one franchise units serve other areas of Kansas and Oklahoma as well as Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas. An additional 35 locations are in various stages of development. Freddy’s was listed as the Fifth Fastest Growing Chain Restaurant in the United States and Canada in 2010 by Chain Store Guide, a sister publication to Nation’s Restaurant News. More recently, Freddy’s was recognized by Technomics as the 5th fastest growing burger concept in the country. In the local community of the company’s founding, Freddy’s is a recipient of the 2011 Best in Business Award from the Wichita Business Journal. In 2011, Freddy’s was also named one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500®.
