Maryland's Pie Five Pizza Craze Heads South to LaurelA better way of experiencing pizza is sweeping the Old Line State and Laurel residents are about to get their first taste of Pie Five Pizza tomorrow.

The nation’s leading fast-casual pizza chain will unveil its newest restaurant in the Laurel Centre Mall Shopping Center at 927 Washington Blvd. S., on Friday, Jan. 16. Doors open at 11 a.m.

The grand opening marks Pie Five’s third location in the greater Washington D.C. market, and Laurel’s introduction to handcrafted, personalized pizzas using only the freshest ingredients, baked to order at one great price. The “five” in Pie Five means it all happens in five minutes or less!

Local franchise owner Alyse Cohen first brought the trend-setting pizza concept to Frederick last August. The Laurel restaurant is one of up to 38 Pie Five franchise units Cohen and her company, ALC Hospitality, plans to open in Southern Maryland, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.

“We’ve been preparing for this opening for several months so we’re all excited to finally introduce Pie Five to the people of Laurel,” said Cohen. “We’ve had nothing but rave reviews in Frederick so I’m confident our unique combination of fresh, quality ingredients, individually handcrafted pies and fast, friendly service will be welcome here, too. It’s delicious and ideal for on-the-go people, which all of us seem to be these days.”

Also Friday, Cohen will present a check to Delete Blood Cancer DKMS, with proceeds raised from private training events held at the restaurant this week. The New York-based nonprofit organization works every day to delete blood cancer by inspiring people to register as bone marrow donors in order to provide patients with second chances at life. “DKMS is an extraordinary organization that has had our support since our first restaurant opened,” said Cohen. “We’re happy to continue partnering with them and look forward to many more opportunities like this in the future.”

Maryland's Pie Five Pizza Craze Heads South to LaurelHere’s how the Pie Five experience works. As pizza lovers step to the counter, our Pie-artisans help them choose their favorite crust – artisan thin, classic pan, whole grain Neapolitan or gluten-free thin. Then they can choose from seven sauces, four cheeses, eight meats and 16 veggies and, best of all, there’s no penalty for piling on…there’s more than a million combinations of handcrafted personal pizzas to choose from.

Pie Five bakes each personal pizza in a specially designed oven. By the time the guest arrives at the register, their hot, bubbly, pizza perfection is ready. And whether they select from one of Pie Five’s specialty recipes or create their own, it’s all the same great price: A handcrafted, artisan pizza that would cost $13-15 in an upscale restaurant for under $7.

Pie Fivers can also add a fresh, hand-made salad, tossed right in front of them while their pizza bakes. Dessert offerings include Turtle brownies and chocolate chip pizza cookies, as well as seasonal pies and cakes, all baked fresh daily.

Pie Five Pizza has been named among Fast Casual’s 2014 Top 15 “Movers & Shakers,” a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation’s Restaurant News and one of “10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands” by Forbes.com. With the Laurel opening, the company now has 32 locations in nine states (Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia) with more than 270 announced franchise units under contract in 14 states and Washington, DC.

The Laurel restaurant will hold an official grand opening ceremony to celebrate its first couple weeks of business on Monday, Feb. 2, with a ribbon cutting compliments of the Baltimore Washington Corridor Chamber at 10:30 a.m. In addition, Hot 99.5 FM will be onsite from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, brandishing food and merchandise giveaways.

Hours of operation will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. A complete menu and more information are available at PieFivePizza.com.
