Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Washington-based VIVA MEXICO has increased by 1 unit, from 3 to 4 (33% growth).  This family/casual Mexican restaurant concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $8-$20 per person check average.  Locations have full bar and seating for around 150.  The restaurants are located in MT and WA.

SAL’S JUST PIZZA of Lawrence, MA (founded 1990) has increased by 1 unit for Salvatore’s, from 3 to 4 (33% concept growth).  Their Sal’s Pizza concept has 40 units.  Overall company growth is from 43 to 44 (2% company growth).  Locations tend to be mostly take-out with limited seating.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Catering and banquet services are offered.  Locations are in AZ, CA, FL, MA and NH.

ROYAL PIZZA based in Edmonton, AB (founded 1969) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  These are family/casual Italian and pizza restaurants with full bar and seating for around 150.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Locations are more than 80% franchised and are in AB.

Seattle, WA-based ZEEK’S PIZZA (founded 1993) has increased by 1 unit, from 9 to 10 (11% growth).  These quick serve pizzerias are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 20.  Catering and delivery are available.  All stores are located in WA.  Franchising is available.

Burlington, VT-based BRUEGGER’S BAGEL BAKERY (founded 1983) has increased by 3 units for the Bruegger’s Bagel concept, from 295 to 298 (1% concept growth) and entered into GA and TX.  The company also operates the 5-unit Bagel Factory concept in PA.  Overall company increase was from 300 to 303 (1% company growth).  These fast casual bakery/cafes are open for breakfast and lunch, with a $2-$6 per person price range.  Units seat about 30.  Catering is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, NC, NE, NY, OH, ON, PA, PQ, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, and WI.

BEN & JACK’S STEAKHOUSE based in New York, NY has increased by 1 unit, from 2 to 3 (50% concept growth).  These are upscale steakhouses with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $15-$50+.  Banquets are offered.  There is a second company concept called Empire Steakhouse (1 unit).  Overall company growth is from 3 to 4 (33% overall growth).  All locations are in NY.

Chicago, IL-based INTELLIGENTSIA COFFEE (founded 1995) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  These quick serve coffee shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, with a $2-$6 per person price range.  Beer and wine are served at one location, others serve no alcohol.  Units seat about 50 and trade in CA and IL.

Atlanta, GA-based HERE TO SERVE RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 1993) has increased by 2 units for the Noche concept, from 2 to 4 (100% concept growth).  The company also operates Aja Restaurant & Bar (1), Cantina Taqueria & Tequila Bar (1), Coast Seafood & Raw Bar (1), Goldfish (1), Prime (1), Shout (1), Strip (1), and Twist (1).  Overall company increase was from 10 to 12 (20% growth).  The restaurants are upscale, serving multiple cuisine types.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with full bar service.  Per person check average is $15-$50+.  Seating is for about 250 and banquet and catering services are available.  All the restaurants are located in GA.

Beachwood, OH-based HYDE PARK RESTAURANT GROUP (founded 1988) has increased by 1 unit for the Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse concept, from 12 to 13 (8% concept growth) and added a new concept called Eleven.  The company also owns Jekyll’s Kitchen (1).  Overall company increase was from 14 to 15 (7% growth), due to the closure of Blake’s Seafood Restaurant.  These upscale steak and seafood concepts are open for lunch and dinner, with a $15-$50 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar and seating for about 175.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Trading areas are FL, MI, NY, and OH.

Northbrook, IL-based LOU MALNATI’S PIZZA (founded 1971) has increased by 1 unit, from 34 to 35 (3% growth).  The restaurants are mostly family/casual, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  Full bar service is available and seating is for around 200.  Some locations are take-out/delivery only.  Online ordering, catering and private party facilities are available.  All locations are in IL.  We last featured this company on 9/27/11 (6% growth) and on 4/17/12 (3% growth).

Morgantown, WV-based BOSTON BEANERY RESTAURANT & TAVERN (founded 1983) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  This family/casual concept is open for lunch and dinner, serving American cuisine.  Per person check average is $8-$20, with full bar service.  Units seat about 125 and offer catering service.  Trading areas are PA, VA, and WV.  Franchising is available.  We wrote about this concept on 8/16/11 (20% growth).
