Growing Concepts
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).

Pacific, WA-based BIGFOOT JAVA (founded 2000) has increased by 3 units, from 25 to 28 (12% growth).  These quick serve coffee shops are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours, with a $2-$6 per person price range.  Units have limited seating and offer drive-thru service.  All locations are in WA.

Toronto, ON-based HERO CERTIFIED BURGERS (founded 2003) has increased by 6 units for the Hero Certified Burgers concept, from 23 to 29 (26% concept growth).  The company also operates an 11-unit concept called Lettieri Espresso & Bar.  Overall company increase was from 34 to 40 (18% growth).  These quick serve burger restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Units have seating for about 30.  Locations are franchised and trade in ON.

LEO’S CONEY ISLAND based in Birmingham, MI (founded 1972) has increased by 1 unit, from 41 to 42 (2% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Beer and wine are offered.  Seating is for around 100.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in IL and MI.

RAINFOREST CAFÉ of Landry’s Restaurant Group, based in Houston, TX (founded 1999) has increased by 2 units, from 31 to 33 (6% growth).  These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 400.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30.  Banquet services are available.  Locations are in AZ, CA, CT, FL, IL, MA, MI, MN, NJ, NV, OH, TX and WA.

ROCCO’S PIZZA based in Lake Elmo, MN (founded 1988) has increased by 1 unit, from 6 to 7 (17% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 50.  Locations are open for dinner.  Catering and delivery services are offered.  All locations are in MN.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Elkhorn, NE-based SAM & LOUIE’S NY PIZZA (founded 1994) has increased by 3 units, from 19 to 22 (16% growth) and entered into SD.  These family/casual pizzerias are open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average.  Units serve been and wine and seat about 125.  Catering service is available.  Locations are franchised and trade in IA, MT, NE, and SD.

Little Rock, AR-based US PIZZA CO (founded 1972) has increased by 2 units, from 12 to 14 (17% growth).  The restaurants are quick serve, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person price range is $4-$10, serving beer and wine.  Units seat about 80 and offer catering and delivery services.  All units are in AR.  Franchising is available.

Addison, TX-based BAR LOUIE has increased by 6 units, from 47 to 53 (13% growth) and entered into RI and TX.  This is a family/casual bar and grill concept, serving American cuisine.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner, with a $10-$30 per person check average.  Units have seating for around 200.  Banquet rooms are available.  Locations are franchised and trade in AR, CA, CO, DC, FL, IL, IN, KY, MA, MI, MO, NY, OH, PA, RI, TX, VA, and WI.  We wrote about this concept on 8/23/11 (4% growth).

Charlotte, NC-based BOJANGLES’ FAMOUS CHICKEN & BISCUITS (founded 1977) has increased by 18 units, from 507 to 525 (4% growth).  These quick serve chicken restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Units seat about 50.  Locations are franchised and trade in AL, DC, FL, GA, MD, MS, NC, PA, SC, TN, VA, and Honduras. We last featured this concept on 10/12/10 (2% growth) and on 7/26/11 (6% growth).

Hayward, CA-based MOUNTAIN MIKE’S PIZZA (founded 1978) has increased by 12 units, from 138 to 150 (9% growth).  These quick serve pizza shops are open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$10 per person price range.  Units serve beer and wine and have seating for about 50.  Catering, delivery, and online ordering services are available.  Units are franchised and trade in CA, NV, OR, and UT.  We featured this concept on 1/4/11 (4% growth) and on 10/25/11 (1% growth).

MARCO’S PIZZA based in Toledo, OH (founded 1978) has increased by 33 units, from 249 to 282 (13% growth) and expanded into ND and SC.  These are mostly take-out restaurants with limited seating.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Catering and delivery services are offered.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IN, KY, LA, MI, NC, ND, NV, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA and WI.  We last reported on this concept on 7/26/11 when they had 17% growth.

SALTGRASS STEAKHOUSE of Houston, TX (founded 1991) has increased by 1 unit, from 46 to 47 (2% growth).  These are family/casual steakhouses with full bar and seating for around 350.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $10-$30.  Locations are in CO, LA, NV, OK and TX.  We reported on this concept on 6/28/11 (5% growth).
