Burien, WA-based AZTECA (founded 1974) has increased by 1 unit, from 33 to 34 (3% growth).  This family/casual Mexican restaurant concept is open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average.  The restaurants have full bar service and seating for around 300.  Catering, banquet and online ordering services are available.  Trading areas are FL, OR, and WA.

Blue Island, IL-based BEGGAR’S PIZZA (founded 1976) has increased by 1 unit, from 19 to 20 (5% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is $6-$15+.  Beer is served.  Units seat about 100 and offer delivery, online ordering, catering, and private party services.  Stores are franchised and trade in IL and IN.

Tampa, FL-based CARRABBA’S ITALIAN GRILL (founded 1986) has increased by 3 units, from 234 to 237 (1% growth).  The restaurants are family/casual, open for dinner only.  Per person check average is $10-$30.  Locations have full bar and seating for about 250.  Online ordering is available.  Trading areas are AL, AR, AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, and WI.  Carrabba’s is a subsidiary of Bloomin Brands Inc (NASDAQ: BLMN).

BRU’S ROOM SPORTS GRILL of Coconut Creek, FL (founded 1974) has increased by 1 unit, from 9 to 10 (11% growth).  These are family casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 250.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $8-$20.  Catering and banquet services are offered.  All locations are in FL.

Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

San Francisco, CA-based BACCHUS MANAGEMENT GROUP (founded 2001) has increased by 2 units, from 6 to 8 (33% growth), adding the new concepts Café Des Amis and Mayfield Bakery & Café.  The company also operates Pizza Antica (4), Spruce (1), and Village Pub (1).  The restaurants are mostly family/casual, open for lunch and dinner, serving multiple cuisine types.  Per person check average is $6-$15+.  Most of the restaurants have full bar and average seating for about 150.  Pizza Antica serves beer and wine only.  Catering and private party services are available.  All the restaurants trade in CA.

New York, NY-based MARIO BATALI RESTAURANTS has increased by 1 unit for the Lupa concept, from 1 to 2 (100% concept growth), by 1 unit for the Pizzeria Mozza concept, from 2 to 3 (50% concept growth), and by 1 unit for Tarry Lodge, from 1 to 2 (100% concept growth), entering into CT and Hong Kong.  The company also operates B & B Ristorante (1), Babbo Ristorante (1), Bar Jamon (1), Carnevino Italian Steakhouse (1), Casa Mono (1), Del Posto (1), Eataly (1), Esca (1), Manzo (1), Mozza2go (1), Osteria Mozza (2), and Otto Enoteca (2).  Overall company increase was from 18 to 21 (17% growth).  These are mostly upscale restaurant concepts, open for lunch and dinner hours.  Per person check average is $15-$50+, serving multiple cuisine types.  The restaurants have full bar and average seating for about 80.  Catering and banquet services are available.  Trading areas are CA, CT, NV, NY, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

DION’S PIZZA of Albuquerque, NM (founded 1978) has increased by 2 units, from 15 to 17 (13% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with a capacity of around 100.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $3-$8.  Catering is offered.  Locations are in NM and TX.

PIZZA FUSION based in Fort Lauderdale, FL (founded 2006) has increased by 5 units, from 15 to 20 (33% growth).  These are quick serve restaurants with seating for around 30.  Beer and wine are served.  Meal periods are lunch and dinner.  Per person check average is around $4-$10.  Catering is offered.  Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in CO, FL, NC, NJ, NV, OH and Saudi Arabia.

Baton Rouge, LA-based RAISING CANE’S (founded 1996) has increased by 33 units, from 108 to 141 (31% growth) and entered into AZ and NJ.  These quick serve chicken restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with a $3-$8 per person price range.  Units seat about 70 and offer catering and drive-thru services.  Franchising is available.  Trading areas are AL, AZ, CO, GA, KY, LA, MA, MN, MS, NE, NJ, NV, OH, OK, SC, TX, and VA.  We last featured this concept on 6/7/11 (11% growth) and on 11/8/11 (5% growth).

Chesterfield, MO-based BANDANA’S BAR-B-Q (founded 1996) has increased by 1 unit, from 30 to 31 (3% growth).  These family/casual BBQ restaurants are open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20 per person check average.  Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 150.  Catering and online ordering services are available.  About 30% of locations are franchised.  Trading areas are IA, IL, and MO.  We wrote about this concept on 5/10/11 (13% growth).
