Birmingham , AL – Craft’s Chicken
2022 will end right with the opening of this yummy spot in December. Started by the O’Neal family, Craft’s has been a staple in Crestline Village. The second location will be across from The Waites in Southside on Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. My BFFs and I always go for the hot honey chicken wrap – it’s the perfect bite for lunch. If a little spice isn’t your thing, don’t worry. There’s just about everything on the menu, including wraps, bowls, mac and cheese, quesadillas and salads.
Chicago, IL – Olive Black Chicago
Richmond’s Olive Black Martini and Wine Lounge is looking to expand to a new location in Lake View at 3032 N Lincoln Ave. The company’s second location, called Olive Black Chicago, will move into the former home of The Land of Lincoln. Owner Wendy Prinn tells What Now Chicago she hoped to open the new site at the end of October 2022, but a pending liquor license has delayed the opening date. When the new lounge opens, customers can expect a similar drink menu, except with even more specialty cocktails and plenty of tapas, similar to the original site. The new Olive Black Chicago will sit between a Barks N’ Rec and the vacated Chicago Antique Centre.
Chattanooga, TN – Uncle Larry’s

San Francisco, CA – Al Carajo
Al Carajo plans to open its debut brick-and-mortar location in late October at 3224 1/2 22nd St, according to Tablehopper. However, as Chef-Owner Javier León is still waiting on an alcohol license, the restaurant will not be fully operational until early 2023. Before the Mission District spot, León has been serving his Yucatecan and seasonally inspired plates out of a food truck.
Philadelphia, PA – Bake’n Bacon
Shortly after making its debut in Westchester, Hart House has announced its second location is coming to Monrovia, at 602 W Huntington Dr. Kevin Hart’s new 2,532-square-foot plant-based restaurant is expected to open in early November 2022, according to a press release sent to What Now Los Angeles. The space will include a 372 square-foot exterior that can seat ten guests, while 30 can sit inside. This is just the beginning for Hart House, which has many more locations in the works across Southern California, with a new site planned for Hollywood. The new QSR chain restaurant plans to open at least 10 locations over the next year.
Washington, DC – Ambar
It’s been a long time coming, but Ambar, the Balkan restaurant chain with locations in Capitol Hill and Clarendon, is nearly ready to launch its newest outpost at the corner of Seventh and Q streets NW in Shaw. Ivan Iricanin and his Street Guys Hospitality is targeting an early November opening, if not sooner – nearly seven years after the Washington Business Journal reported that Ambar would be replacing another restaurant from celebrity chef Richard Sandoval at 1547 Seventh St. NW. A lot has happened since then, including the Covid-19 pandemic, a foreclosure from the building’s former owner and subsequent sale to a new group. All that kept Ambar from being an early shaper of Shaw’s evolving restaurant scene. So be it, Iricanin said.
