The City of Lakes has been holding its breath for the arrival of Cheba Hut “Toasted” Subs, and the counter-culture themed sandwich shop is officially firing up its latest joint in Uptown on December 8th. Get ready for a dose of weird, wild, and wonderfully toasted energy that this city absolutely deserves.
Located at 1118 W Lake St., the new Cheba Hut isn’t just serving subs; it’s bringing a full-on experience. The spot was revived by a duo of restaurant legends, including Minneapolis native Nick Reckinger, who teamed up to make this shop a genuine neighborhood hotspot.
Reckinger, a proud local, says this opening is “for the homies who remember Uptown before it got fancy.” And trust us, the interior screams local pride – in the best possible way.
Pure Minnesota Madness Inside
Step inside, and you’ll find a space dripping in local flavor. Local artist Ross Palbicki created a custom mural that pays tribute to two Twin Cities legends: Prince and the regionally relevant loon (now sporting some fresh shades and bling, naturally). You’ll also find the Cheba Hut mascot, Flip the Bird, enjoying his own blunt-sized sandwich (or maybe a sandwich-sized blunt – we don’t judge).
This spot isn’t just about the art, either. It’s built to hang out, featuring a full bar and a great craft beer lineup.
“Minnesotans are just the right amount of crazy and I love it,” said co-owner Matt Alexander. He admitted he wasn’t sure if the brand’s unique vibe would translate from Colorado, but now he’s convinced: “Turns out, they might love it even more – which is insane.”
Cheba Hut Minneapolis is here to flip the entire fast-casual scene on its head. Forget corporate suits and cookie-cutter energy; this is a place for great toasted subs, delicious munchies, Kool-Aid, and a whole lot of personality.
