On Tuesday, March 20, hungry seafood fans can catch a ‘reel’ deal at Ivar’s Seafood Bars and full-serve restaurants throughout Washington State in celebration of what would have been flounder Ivar Haglund’s 107thbirthday. Throughout the day patrons can purchase one full-priced entrée and receive a second entrée for just $1.07, simply by exclaiming “Happy Birthday, Ivar!” upon placing their order.
Fans seeking the annual deal will be able to choose their $1.07 priced entrée among a special birthday menu featuring some of Haglund’s most beloved dishes and the restaurant’s most popular sellers. In addition to the entrée offer, Ivar’s Seafood Restaurants will also treat the first 107 guests at each location to a delicious cupcake.
In conjunction with the in-store offerings, Ivar’s is also hosting the “Ivar Haglund Birthday Video Contest” on the O-Fish-All Ivar’s Club Facebook page. Fans can enter by uploading a video of themselves singing happy birthday to Ivar by March 21, for a chance to win a $107 Ivar’s gift card or other great prizes. Winners will be selected based on originality and creativity, and bonus points are awarded for videos filmed at Ivar’s locations.
The birthday bargain is available all day long at any of the 25 quick-serve Ivar’s Seafood Bars throughout Washington state, excluding stadium locations. All Ivar’s full service locations are also in on the action, including Ivar’s Acres of Clams on Seattle’s waterfront, Ivar’s Salmon House on north Lake Union, and Ivar’s Mukilteo Landing on Possession Sound.
“Every year we look forward to Ivar’s birthday celebration, and we know our fans do too. Last year we served the largest number of guests in a single day in our company’s history,” said Bob Donegan, President of Ivar’s. “Ivar Haglund left Seattle with so many fun memories, from the infamous syrup spill on Alaskan Way in the 40s to the Dancing Clams, it’s only fitting we commemorate the impact he had on this region.”
Ivar Haglund began the popular restaurant chain bearing his name in 1938, when he opened a fish and chips stand at Pier 3 (now Pier 54). He was well known for his popular radio ditties, as well as his comical stunts such as clam eating contests, Christmas walk with Patsy the aquarium’s baby seal and an Ivar’s clam postage stamp. The history behind Ivar Haglund can be found on Ivar’s website.
