Konala, the emerging healthy fast-food concept specializing in high-protein bowls, has signed a significant 25-unit development agreement. The deal, led by the experienced franchise group Speedy Foods LLC, includes 10 upcoming locations in Northern Utah and 15 in the greater Boise, Idaho market.
Scaling a Modern Drive-Thru Model
The partnership underscores a growing industry shift toward health-conscious, efficient dining. Konala’s compact, drive-thru-focused model offers customizable bowls containing up to 54 grams of protein, prepared in a kitchen free of fryers, flattops, and grills.
“This concept checks every box for where the industry is heading,” said a spokesperson for Speedy Foods LLC. “Konala’s model is simple to operate, scalable, and delivers the kind of healthy, high-protein meals customers are actively seeking.”
Rapid National Growth
Since launching its franchise program with Fransmart in September 2024, Konala has quickly built a national footprint. The brand is on track to end the year with nearly 50 units in development, with signed commitments already in place across:
-
Utah and Idaho
-
New Jersey
-
Philadelphia
-
California
In addition to franchise growth, Konala is expanding its corporate presence. Following a successful opening in Spokane this year, the brand has signed leases for new 2026 locations in Reno, Nevada, and a second Spokane site near Gonzaga University. Franchise leases have also been secured in Provo, Utah, and Belleville, New Jersey.
Built for Large-Scale Expansion
To support this rapid scaling, Konala has invested in a robust corporate infrastructure. The brand partnered with Citadel Development – the team behind national names like 7 Brew and Smalls Sliders – to manage design and project management. Additionally, the company has integrated advanced technology platforms like Toast POS and XtraCHEF, while standardizing its supply chain through US Foods.
Internally, Konala has strengthened its leadership team by adding a Chief of Staff, a Marketing Manager, and multiple corporate trainers to ensure operational excellence as new markets open.
“Our growth this year has been driven by experienced operators who see exactly where fast food is going,” said Trace Miller, Founder and CEO of Konala. “Consumers want food that fuels them; franchisees want a model designed for scale. This 25-unit commitment reinforces that Konala delivers both.”
