Larry 'Lo-Lo' White, Founder of Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles, Serves Up Some Insight into his Soul Food RevolutionAfter more than a decade of success in Arizona, Larry “Lo-Lo” and Rasheedah White, founders of Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles, are ready to start a soul food revolution. The couple has partnered with real estate veterans to launch the original concept as a national franchise brand. RestaurantNews.com recently sat down with Lo-Lo himself for the details on this new restaurant opportunity.

Can you tell us a little bit about Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles?

Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles is a casual dining restaurant that is now offering franchising opportunities for qualified single and multi-unit candidates. The concept is the first-to-market, national soul food franchise restaurant and it is perfectly positioned for expansion across the United States.

How did you come up with Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles?

The Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles concept started in 1997 when I perfected my fried chicken recipe in the back of my grandmother’s restaurant and opened my first location in Phoenix, Ariz.

Where do you see your company in the next five years?

I would like to see Lo-Lo’s expand in different cities across the country; we want to bring our soul food to consumers nationwide! Additionally, we’d like to expand the brand through Arizona with company-owned restaurants.

Larry 'Lo-Lo' White, Founder of Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles, Serves Up Some Insight into his Soul Food RevolutionCan you describe some of your menu items for us?

Each menu item has been perfected over the last decade. I am proud to say that Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles has its own waffle mix, seasoned salt, maple syrup and hot sauce. In addition to our famous, award-winning chicken and waffles, guests can select from a full menu of authentic Southern comfort food and home cooked favorites passed down from my family recipes. A sample of those items includes, Uncle Brotha’s Shrimp & Grits, Aunt Hattie’s Salmon Croquettes, collard greens, fried green tomatoes, red velvet cake and much more. Each dish is made from scratch, every day, onsite at every Lo-Lo’s restaurant.

Tell us a little bit about the financial performance of your Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles locations.

Our existing Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles restaurants in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona have achieved phenomenal financial success and reported 2013 gross sales numbers of $3,677,069 and $2,560,694, respectively. Each new restaurant will offer multiple revenue streams including full bar, catering and merchandise sales.

What are the franchising requirements?

We are seeking single and multi-unit operators with business, management and foodservice and/or restaurant experience. Franchisee candidates should have a passion for and commitment to exceptional customer service, as well as a minimum liquidity of $200,000. Depending on whether you build or lease, franchisees can expect the total cost of investment for one restaurant to be approximately $651,000 – $2,229,900, including an initial franchise fee of $45,000.
